Hi everyone! I can't believe we are almost into February. This school year is flying by and we are learning so much in 3rd grade! Here is a quick update on what is going on in our classroom!
Math: In math, we are wrapping up our "Collections and Travel Stories" unit. We have been working really hard on solving addition and subtraction problems! We have learned different strategies for both adding and subtracting, including the standard algorithm. Keep practicing math facts at home! Knowing math facts quickly makes solving the more complicated problems much easier! Reading: We are continuing to work hard on our 3rd grade reading skills. I have been reading Charlotte's Web to them and we have been working on literature circle roles with the story. This has led to some really great reading discussions! Students are also working on summarizing, story mapping, restating the questions, and finding evidence in the text. Writing: We have just finished up informational writing. Students ended this unit by creating their own book on something they were an expert on! We are moving on to opinion writing this week. This is always one of my favorite units! 3rd graders usually have pretty strong opinions! ;) Science: In science we have started learning about plant and animal extinction. We got to start this unit with a fun tag game to represent an invasive species! Social Studies: Our current focus in Social Studies in the Civil Rights Movement. In January, we learned a lot about Martin Luther King Jr. and why we got that day off from school! We are now focusing on Ruby Bridges. Thanks for stopping by our blog!
