Hello everyone! Welcome to another school year. Third grade is an exciting and busy time! You will find updates about our class on Class Dojo. It is the best way to stay in touch with me and see what is going on in our classroom. Please let me know if you have any questions about how to join!
Feel free to contact me at any time through my email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
We have been so busy in third grade! Here is a little bit of what we are working on:

Writing: Students are working on personal narratives. We also call these small moment or seed stories!
Science: We are starting a new unit on Environmental Traits this week!
Social Studies: Students have been learning about maps.
Don't forget, the book fair is coming up! It will be from October 29-November 9. It will be open during parent teacher conferences! I am looking forward to meeting with all of you!

We had a blast on our field trip today! We visited Crane Brothers Farm to learn about harvesting potatoes. We even got to pick some (a lot) and bring them home! We are SO thankful they welcomed us to watch them hard at work!
To add to our awesome day, we also stopped at Corinth Village Creamery for some yummy ice cream! It was a great trip! Thank you to the chaperones that came to help!
Thanks for stopping by our blog! For more frequent updates, please check Class Dojo. If you have not joined our class yet, I would be happy to help you get started!

As we make our way through March, I wanted to give you all an update on my upcoming maternity leave. I am hopeful to be here through the majority of March, but when I leave, Miss Emily Mills will be taking over our classroom. We are very lucky to have her! She completed her student teaching here at CDS in fourth grade. She has been in to meet the kids, and will stop in a few more times to spend the day with us. Miss Mills will also be connected to Class Dojo. You can communicate with her there, via email at email@example.com, or by calling the school. She will reach out to you when she starts! Thank you so much for your support during this time!
Hi everyone! I can't believe we are almost into February. This school year is flying by and we are learning so much in 3rd grade! Here is a quick update on what is going on in our classroom!
Math: In math, we are wrapping up our "Collections and Travel Stories" unit. We have been working really hard on solving addition and subtraction problems! We have learned different strategies for both adding and subtracting, including the standard algorithm. Keep practicing math facts at home! Knowing math facts quickly makes solving the more complicated problems much easier!
Reading: We are continuing to work hard on our 3rd grade reading skills. I have been reading Charlotte's Web to them and we have been working on literature circle roles with the story. This has led to some really great reading discussions! Students are also working on summarizing, story mapping, restating the questions, and finding evidence in the text.
Writing: We have just finished up informational writing. Students ended this unit by creating their own book on something they were an expert on! We are moving on to opinion writing this week. This is always one of my favorite units! 3rd graders usually have pretty strong opinions! ;)
Science: In science we have started learning about plant and animal extinction. We got to start this unit with a fun tag game to represent an invasive species!
Social Studies: Our current focus in Social Studies in the Civil Rights Movement. In January, we learned a lot about Martin Luther King Jr. and why we got that day off from school! We are now focusing on Ruby Bridges.

On Tuesday afternoon, the third grade classes will the watching the movie The BFG. We have just finished reading the book together and we are excited to see how the movie might be different! This movie is rated PG. If you do not want your child to watch this movie, please contact their teacher and an alternate activity will be arranged. Thank you!
Our class has also earned our next Dojo reward! Pajama and stuffy day was the winner, so we decided to do it on the same day as the movie! The stuffy must be able to fit it their backpack!
I hope everyone has had a great start to November! Third grade is flying by! It was so nice to get a chance to speak with you all at conferences. I am so proud of your children and truly love working with them each day.
Here are some upcoming dates to keep in mind:
Don't forget to have your students practice their math facts at home! When we go into the 2nd trimester, students need to have passed addition and subtraction. If there is anything extra I can do to help, let me know!
As we have made our way into October, I wanted to give you a quick update on what we have been doing in third grade! Here are some important dates to keep in mind:

Here is a brief update on what we are learning:
